Data Observatory
MANIFEST

Our stance on data for the social sector

This manifesto declares how we understand the power of information, why visibility matters, and how we use data with integrity to strengthen more equitable decision-making.

"What gets measured matters. And what isn’t measured often disappears."

Manifest

Transparency is the foundation of an active democracy.

Access to clear, open, and reliable data is a collective right. When we share information that was previously fragmented or inaccessible, we open the door to more informed citizenship and fairer decisions.

Justice begins with what we decide to make visible.

What gets measured matters. And what doesn’t get measured often disappears. Collecting, analyzing, consolidating, and making data on the social sector visible is a way to resist the structural invisibility of our communities and organizations.

Collective intelligence is strategy.

We do not believe in vertical knowledge or in “experts” as the only source. The Observatory feeds on knowledge that comes from the street, the ecosystem, community management, and activism. We build evidence together.

Equity is not achieved through intuition—it is designed with intention.

That is why we use data to identify gaps, name barriers, and guide fairer investments. Numbers should tell the truth, not manipulate it.

Access to data is a right, not a privilege.

The Observatory is public, free, and designed to be useful as a platform. We want any organization to be able to use this tool to strengthen its planning, make a stronger impact, and better tell its story.

Data is not just reports. It is relationships.

Behind every number is a human experience. Every graph is a story that deserves to be heard with sensitivity. That is why we treat data with the utmost integrity.

We do not use data to audit the present, but to design possible futures.

We use data as a tool for transformation. To make better decisions. To imagine new systems. To move from analysis to action.
